Begging Bowl Paintings

In 1987, the great Eidetic psychologist Achter Ahsen PhD read me an ancient Chinese script, a Taoist script: "Come to Life with a bowl, an empty bowl, a Beggar’s Bowl."  The Begging Bowl serves as a poetic image. It is a metaphor for acceptance and receptivity. As of 2024, I have painted 92 "inspired" Begging Bowl paintings.  These images came to me in the quiet of dreams, meditations or the reverie of staring into the unknown moment.

We are a part of Life; we are a member of something grander than ourselves. We are on a planet which rotates on its axis and revolves in our solar system. Our sympathetic nervous systems are in a constant state of sensing and balancing. The Begging Bowl is a mirror of ourselves and our inextricable relationship with Life.
